Fugint de la guerra de l’Iraq, l’Eman i les seves dues filles, la Baran i la Ginar, van arribar fa uns anys a Suècia, el paradigma de la societat del benestar somiada un dia pel socialdemòcrata Olof Palme. Avui han rebut una carta oficial, que la Baran ha traduït a la seva mare, que diu que els neguen el permís de residència. I la Baran, després, s’ha posat malalta: no parla, no juga, no fa res. Desesperada, l’Eman la porta a l’hospital. Amb la filla malalta, haurà de tornar i reviure, totes tres, l’experiència demolidora de la guerra?
A finals del noranta va aparèixer a Suècia un fenomen únic que semblava que afectava només als nens i joves refugiats. Els casos van continuar durant dues dècades fins arribar a un pic de 350 casos entre el 2004 i 2005. Nens i joves que deixaven de comunicar-se i menjar per endinsar-se en una estranya letargia, propera a l’aparença del coma. No sense debat, la comunitat mèdica va denominar aquest fenomen com a “síndrome de resignació”. Aquest és el rerefons documental –amb el llibre de la metgessa Elisabeth Hultcrantz per font principal– que han fet servir Xicu Masó, Clàudia Cedó i Mohamad Bitari per construir una metàfora sobre la insuportable angoixa dels qui viuen tenallats per la por de tornar a un lloc de mort i sofriment, del qual van poder fugir.

Fleeing the war in Iraq, Eman and his two daughters, Baran and Ginar, arrived a few years ago in Sweden, the paradigm of the welfare society dreamed up by the social democrat Olof Palme. Today they have received an official letter, which Baran has translated to their mother, in which he says that they are denied a residence permit. And Baran later became ill: she doesn’t talk, she doesn’t play, she doesn’t do anything. Desperately, Emán takes her to the hospital. With her sick daughter, will she have to return and relive, the three of them, the devastating experience of war?
A unique phenomenon appeared in Sweden in the late 1990s which only seemed to affect children and young people in the refugee community. The cases continued for two decades, until they peaked at 350 cases between 2004 and 2005. Children and young people stopped communicating and eating, and succumbed to a strange lethargy, similar to a coma in many ways. After some debate, the medical community dubbed this phenomenon "resignation syndrome". That is the documentary context - with the book by Dr Elisabeth Hultcrantz as its main source - used by Xicu Masó, Clàudia Cedó and Mohamad Bitari to construct a metaphor about the unbearable anguish of those who live in fear of returning to a place of death and suffering from which they managed to escape.
