En el centenari del naixement de José Saramago, Premi Nobel de Literatura del 1998, portem a escena un dels seus llibres més coneguts: Assaig sobre la ceguesa. Una pandèmia s’estén per tot el món: una plaga de ceguesa inexplicable i incurable. El govern aplica restriccions cada vegada més repressives i inútils per intentar frenar-ne el contagi. La falta de recursos i les condicions extremes faran que la gent lluiti per sobreviure però que només aquells més immorals ho aconsegueixin.
"Assaig sobre la ceguesa" és una paràbola sobre la condició humana en un escenari que semblava inversemblant fins que va arribar la pandèmia i moltes imatges del text ressonàven diferent. La por, la pèrdua, la impotència, l’esperança i la llibertat s’havien fet molt presents.
In the centenary of the birth of José Saramago, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998, we bring to the stage one of his best-known books: Blindness. A pandemic is spreading across the world: an inexplicable and incurable plague of blindness. The government applies increasingly repressive and useless restrictions to try to stop the contagion. The lack of resources and extreme conditions will make people struggle to survive but only the most immoral will succeed.
"Blindness" is a parable about the human condition in a setting that seemed unlikely until the pandemic hit and many images in the text resonated differently. Fear, loss, helplessness, hope and freedom had become very present.
